What does it take to be a 51Talk online English teacher?
Basic Qualifications:
- A four-year Bachelor’s degree
- 1 year teaching experience (preferably teaching young learners, K-12 students)
- Native speaker of English with neutral accent
- Experience in teaching English to foreigners (ESL/EFL)
- A teaching certificate, including state teaching certifications, TESOL, TEFL, etc. (preferred)
- A valid diploma or proof of graduation, police clearance, and 1 government-issued ID
- Legally eligible to work in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, United Kingdom, or South Africa
Schedule Expectations:
Availability to teach during peak hours (each lesson lasts 25 minutes):
- 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Beijing Time (weekdays: Mondays to Fridays)
- 9:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. Beijing Time (weekends: Saturdays to Sundays)
Technical Requirements:
- Device: Desktop or laptop
- Headset with microphone and noise-cancelling features (as used in call centers)
- High-definition (HD) external or integrated webcam
- Network: Wired DSL Internet connection of at least 5Mbps (USB sticks, signal-based & wireless connections are not allowed)
Minimum System Requirements of laptop or desktop
- Operating System: Windows 8 or above or Mac
- CPU: Intel Core i5 to i7 4th gen and up / AMD A Series A8 7500 and above / AMD Ryzen
- Memory: At least 4GB of RAM (recommended 8GB) with a minimum of 100GB free hard disk space available

How much is the pay?
- Base Pay: $5 USD per 25-minute lesson ($10 USD per hour)
- Others: Referral fee of $30 USD for every successfully launched referral
How do I get started?
Day 1
- Apply online and submit details of your teaching qualifications.
- Schedule an interview and technical check (your valid mobile number, email address, and Skype ID are required).
- Attend the pre-service orientation and sign the service agreement.
Day 2
- Complete the new teacher training and the Introduction to TESOL course.
- Ace the teaching demo.
Day 3
- Attend the onboarding session and open your teaching slots.
- Submit your requirements and pass the background check to start teaching!
